Do you have degenerative disc disease causing low back pain? Are you looking for treatment? Here is a case study of one of our patients in Columbus, OH who we were able to help:

Patient:  63 year old female, 5’-3”, 145lbs, blood pressure 124/82mmHg, pulse 60bpm, and 14 breaths per minute.

Mechanism of Injury: The patient was gardening and was pulling weeds and felt a stiff ache that prevented her from getting out of bed the next morning.

Subjective: She reports having this problem before and rates her back pain as a 7/10. She has difficulty walking, standing, and sitting, and laying down relieves her pain.

Visual Inspection: She appears to be leaning forward and uses walls and tables for balance as she ambulates.

Manual Palpation: She has a right piriformis contraction that is tender to the touch, and bilateral lumbar extensor spasms that are painful to the touch with the most sensitivity around the L4 vertebra.

Range of Motion Assessment: She can bend her back in all ranges, but when she bends forward, she has difficulty standing back up.

Lumbar X-Rays: Bone density is adequate with no evidence of fracture. There is no evidence of soft tissue swelling. The disc height between L4/L5 is severely decreased with osteophytes growing outward bridging the two bones. This is indicative of degenerative disc disease also referred to as degenerative joint disease.

Spinal Decompression Treatment Day 1: After treatment with 15 minutes of lumbar spinal decompression at 50lbs, she felt that she could walk without using a table or wall for balance. Her pain was reduced to a 4/10 and she was able to stand up without leaning forward.

PATIENT TESTIMONIAL

After 1 Week of Treatment: After 3 treatments of spinal decompression, her pain was reduced to a 2/10 and she could walk without discomfort.

The patient came in for treatment for 3 more weeks and has a complete resolution of her low back pain with a progressive spinal decompression treatment of up to 70lbs.

The patient received spinal decompression two times per month for 2 months and was released from care after the third month due to improved mobility, strength, and reduced pain to 0/10. Her blood pressure was 120/76mmHg.

Many patients who seek our chiropractic services have similar outcomes, with improved ranges of motion, increased strength, improved mood, and normalized blood pressure.
