In this video, Dr. Dan Jurus explains what a lumbar herniated disc is and how to get pain relief from spinal decompression therapy (SDT).
Hi, my name is Dr. Dan Jurus for Northtowne Chiropractic. Our doctors have over 20 years experience treating injured workers.
If you’ve been injured at work and have a herniated disc, we can help. In this video, I’m going to describe to you a herniated disc.
Here is a model of your low back where we have five lumbar vertebra and five lumbar discs. These discs have two parts, the outer part is made up of annular disc fibers that prevent rotation and the inner part is made up of a jelly-like substance that prevents compression.
Too much force over an extended period of time can lead to a herniated disc where the outer fibers have been worn away and the disc is now causing pressure on the spinal nerve, or spinal cord, causing severe pain, numbness, or muscle weakness. See figure 1:

If you suffer from a herniated disc you may find relief with spinal decompression therapy. This treatment is designed to pull the spine apart in opposite directions creating a vacuum inside the disc, reducing pressure off of the spinal nerve, or spinal cord.
If you have a herniated disc, or think you have herniated disc, call our office today to see if you’re a candidate for spinal decompression therapy.
